Questions about this tool

What information does a WHOIS lookup return?

Registrar, registrant (where published), registration, update and expiry dates, registry status codes and the delegated name servers — pulled live from the authoritative registry via RDAP.

Why are some registrant details hidden?

auDA and most global registries redact personal contact details for privacy. Business registrant names on .au domains are generally still published.

Can I use this to check if a domain is free?

Yes. If the registry returns no record, the domain is unregistered and you can register it straight away.

What do the status codes mean?

clientTransferProhibited means a transfer lock is protecting the domain. pendingDelete or redemptionPeriod means it has expired and is heading for release.

Does it work for .com.au domains?

Yes — we query the auDA registry directly, so .au, .com.au, .net.au and .org.au all return complete records.
