FAQ

Things we get asked all the time

Everything you need to know before moving your domain across.

Will the transfer cause any downtime to my website?

No. Transferring your domain name to My Australian Host is quick and simple, and will not cause any downtime to your website or email. Your existing name servers stay in place until you change them.

How long does a domain transfer take?

Most global extensions (.com, .net, .org) complete within 5–7 days once you approve the transfer email. .au transfers typically complete within 48 hours once the registry approval email is confirmed.

Do I need to pay to transfer my domain name?

It depends on the extension. Most global extensions add 12 months to your registration as part of the transfer fee. .au transfers are free and keep your existing expiry date.

What is an EPP code and where do I get it?

An EPP code (also called an auth code or transfer key) is a password for your domain. Your current registrar provides it — usually in their client area under domain settings, or by request to their support team.

Can I transfer a domain that was recently registered?

Most registries require a domain to be at least 60 days old before it can be transferred. If yours is newer, register your interest and we'll remind you when it's eligible.

What happens to my DNS records during the transfer?

Your current DNS keeps working throughout the transfer. Once the domain is with us you can move to our free DNS hosting whenever you're ready — our team will help you copy every record across.
